Irkens are relatively antisocial and independent, rather than it being an instinctual thing, it's more so a form of self pride that all Irkens harbor; that they don't 'need anyone' in a manner of speaking. This isn't true in all cases though, as they tend to pick out a single 'friend' of sorts where they spend some leisure time and the occasional meal with as a form of company, if anything, yet are convinced that if that person didn't show up then they wouldn't care.  Irken friendships rarely exceed above simple company or conversations, and almost never escalate to loyalty or protectiveness to one another.  Their loyalties tend to be stronger when it comes to the military essentially because they have to keep their teammates alive, and have to spend extended periods of time with a handful of people on missions, or during combat, but otherwise usually dislike each other.

On a side note, due to this matter, Irkens have terrible table manners.

I could see that happening. However I believe that when it comes to the really short Irkens like Bob the service drone, who have to spend their lives in slavery. They tend to make friends easier with one another and stick together, as they have no value to the taller Irkens other than a slave.
